LabLaunch Monrovia houses a diverse array of companies ranging in focus from drug development to stem cell therapeutics. It is uniquely situated in one of LA’s only biotech clusters, adjacent to City of Hope’s Beckman Institute Laboratories and established companies such as LabCorp and ChromoLogic. We are also located within driving distance to our partner laboratories at USC, CHLA, HMRI, Caltech, UCLA and City of Hope, where students are placed during research internships.
Within LabLaunch Monrovia, Pathways to Stem Cell Science occupies a private laboratory – The Johanna. B. Gunter Stem Cell Training Laboratory – named in honor of EiHS founding donors, Johanna. B. Gunter and Jeffrey. R. Gunter, MD. Our 12-person training facility, shown below houses state-of-the-art equipment for deriving, culturing and manipulating human stem cells. As tenants of LabLaunch Monrovia we also benefit from many resources including shared conferencing facilities, analytical equipment and an exceptional scientific community. Pathways to Stem Cell Science is one of the only extracurricular STEM programs to be headquartered in an entrepreneurial biotech industry setting.

The training laboratory (pictured right) houses a complete molecular biology and stem cell culture suite containing the following equipment:
The prepartion laboratory (prep lab), pictured left is used by Pathways to Stem Cell Science staff to prepare teaching materials and develop hands-on classes for educational programs. The prep lab contains a small biosafety cabinet, a direcet heat CO2 incubator and a phase contrast microscope. Besides educational development, it is also used to validate reagents and techniques and perform collaborative research with scientists around the world.
The Johanna B. Gunter Training Laboratory also features a storage room adjacent to the training facilities. This convenient location enables easy access to supplies and reagents during laboratory training courses. The entire training facility is laid out with an efficient workflow, designed specifically for wet-lab training. Biosafety and equipment instructions are posted around the lab to promote safe working practices and ensure students are properly trained in the use of stem cell culture equipment.
