The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) was created by Californians in 2004 by the passing of Proposition 71. Its mission is to fund stem cell research throughout California with the goal of accelerating treatments to patients with unmet medical needs. To ensure a pipeline of well-trained and talented stem cell scientists, CIRM has invested heavily in education programs like the Summer Program to Accelerate Regenerative Medicine Knowledge (SPARK). In collaboration with Caltech scientist Dr. Henry Lester, Pathways to Stem Cell Science has received a five-year CIRM SPARK award to fund the establishment of a hands-on research program. The EiHS CIRM SPARK program enables six underserved and disadvantaged high school students to train in our facilities and then participate in stem cell research at Caltech. Pathways to Stem Cell Science was also awarded a grant to host the 2019 CIRM SPARK annual meeting. This event brings together CIRM SPARK fellows and mentors from 7 participating research institutions across California, in addition to recognized educators, scientists and luminaries.

Biological Industries is a multinational chemicals and biotechnology company and one of the world’s leading suppliers of laboratory products to the life sciences industry. With over 30 years’ experience in cell culture media development and manufacturing, they have supplied products to and collaborated with many of the industries leading academic institutes and biotechnology companies. As part of their commitment to help support and train future generations of stem cell scientists, BI-USA partnered for 3 years with Pathways to Stem Cell Science to create the “Biological Industries Culture of Excellence Research Scholarship” program. These scholarships, were awarded to underserved students from low income and ethnic minority backgrounds enabling their attendance of the “Intro to Stem Cell Systems” program.

Hawley & Associates LLC is a specialty insurance broker and leading provider of custom insurance products for social service, human service and child well fare organizations. They have a unique commitment to make the world a better place by supporting organizations that help disadvantaged individuals and their communities. In keeping with this mission, Hawley and Associates LLC have created the “Wayne Hawley Giving Grant” to support projects aimed at improving the lives of children and their families. This one-year $5,000 grant was awarded to Pathways to Stem Cell Science in 2017 to fund the creation of “Wayne Hawley EiHS Stem Cell Academy Scholarships” for low income, ethnic minority and underserved students.
